Most people call a plumber when a tap starts leaking. If you’re in Clumsy County, you apparently call Dan – a man with a sniper rifle, a keen eye for trouble and absolutely no interest in solving problems the conventional way.

Sniper Dan is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch for £8.59, bringing a rather unusual twist to the hidden object genre.

Developed by Denki and published by PQube, the game is all about spotting problems, lining up the perfect shot and making the world a slightly more functional place. And yep, that also includes dealing with a thieving pelican.

Forget Hunting Enemies – Dan Hunts Problems

Sniper Dan takes the familiar process of searching for hidden objects and gives it a very large scope. Your job is to investigate a situation, study the clues, identify what’s gone wrong and then fix it from a safe distance.

That might mean sorting out a rusty tap, dealing with a malfunctioning machine or stopping someone from making off with something that doesn’t belong to them. The solution is often hiding somewhere within the colourful 3D environments, although the game isn’t exactly shy about pointing you towards a rifle-based answer.

Dan’s work takes him across villages, parks, farms, airports and cities, with each location packed with visual jokes, odd situations and people who apparently can’t solve anything without calling in a sniper.

Scope, Shoot And Move On

The basic gameplay loop is utterly simple, but there’s satisfaction in finding the correct target and pulling off the shot. Optional jobs offer additional cash, while larger contracts provide bigger rewards and give you more reasons to keep exploring.

There are also secrets to discover, with some situations leaving the locals convinced that something miraculous has happened. They aren’t entirely wrong. It was Dan, after all.

Between assignments, you can upgrade your rifle, improve your office hub and build up your troubleshooting business. Additional modes include Time Attack, Ammo Hunt and Photo Mode.

A Little Extra Style For Dan

The £2.69 Sniper Dan: Hotshot DLC adds 18 gamer-themed cosmetic items, allowing you to customise both Dan and his office.

The additions include themed walls, flooring, lighting, furniture, outfits, accessories, rifle charms and the Deluxe Super Guy! Gachapon collectible. The DLC includes items such as a Lo-Fi Poster, gaming desks and chairs, colourful headsets, a Chonky Floofer Plush and a Goofy Dragon Statue.

The Hotshot DLC is cosmetic-only and doesn’t add any extra gameplay content, but it does offer a way to give Dan’s workplace a little more personality.

Our Verdict: A Surprisingly Good Shot

We awarded Sniper Dan 4/5 in our review, describing it as an amusing, clever and enjoyable take on hidden object games. We noted that it probably won’t convert players who aren’t interested in the genre, while traditional snipers coming from games such as Call of Duty or Battlefield might not find the experience they expect.

For those who enjoy relaxing searches, ticking off objectives and finding things in increasingly ridiculous situations, though, Sniper Dan has plenty going for it.
