Capcom has revealed that Proto Man will fight alongside the Blue Bomber in Mega Man: Dual Override, giving players a second playable character when the game launches in Spring 2027.
Shown during the latest Nintendo Direct, and got a good look at Proto Man, and plays quite differently from Mega Man. While Mega Man sticks with the ranged firepower that fans have come to expect, Proto Man prefers to get up close and personal with close-quarters attacks. His aggressive fighting style gives players another way to tear through stages and take down the game’s Robot Masters. Kinda feels like Capcom is reminiscing of another character who also is dressed in red. Yes. I mean Zero from Mega Man X.
AdvertisementBoth heroes can also take advantage of the new Override system, which temporarily pushes their abilities beyond their normal limits. Capcom hasn’t revealed everything the system can do just yet, but it sounds like it will give players a powerful option when they need some extra firepower or find themselves staring down one of the game’s tougher encounters.
Capcom also unveiled new Mega Man and Proto Man amiibo figures, which will be released alongside the game. Details regarding their in-game functionality and exact release date will be announced later.
AdvertisementAnd don’t forget that I recently had the opportunity to go hands-on with Mega Man: Dual Override. While I was only able to play a small slice of the game, I enjoyed what I experienced and walked away wanting to see more. Adding Proto Man as a fully playable character only makes us more eager to get our hands on the finished game.
Mega Man: Dual Override launches in spring 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC.
