Reality is already difficult enough to deal with without wondering if you can actually trust what you’re seeing. That is the unsettling proposition behind BrokenLore: DON’T LIE, the latest psychological horror experience from Wired Productions and Serafini Productions, which is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PC and PlayStation 5.
Priced at £12.99 on the Xbox Store, DON’T LIE takes players into the fractured world of Junko, a hikikomori whose isolated existence begins to fall apart as memories she has spent years suppressing start forcing their way back into her life.

A Nightmare Built From Memory
Junko has spent years shutting herself away from the outside world. Her relationship with her father left its mark, while attempts to connect with others were followed by rejection and humiliation. Retreating into isolation became a way of controlling the world around her.
That control doesn’t last.
As DON’T LIE progresses, familiar locations begin to change, with ordinary environments giving way to distorted spaces shaped by Junko’s memories, fears and fractured perception. What starts as an exploration of her apartment gradually becomes something far more unsettling as the boundaries between what happened and what she believes happened begin to blur.
Keep Your Eyes Open
The game takes a deliberately slow-burn approach to horror. Exploration and investigation are central, with messages, files and environmental clues helping piece together Junko’s story.
There is also something watching. An unseen presence begins tracking Junko’s behaviour, meaning simply moving around the environment can carry its own risks. Staying out of sight and being careful about how you explore becomes increasingly important as the tension builds.
Another BrokenLore Story To Uncover
DON’T LIE is part of the wider BrokenLore series, although newcomers don’t need to have played the previous games to understand Junko’s story.
That’s useful news for anyone discovering the series for the first time, although previous BrokenLore games have already given us plenty of reason to be curious. BrokenLore: UNFOLLOW picked up a 4/5, with its social media-focused horror praised for its visuals, sound design and mind-bending sequences.
BrokenLore: FOLLOW received a 3.5/5, meanwhile. While it felt smaller than UNFOLLOW, its story, presentation and strange chapter-ending mini-games still helped turn the series into one worth keeping an eye on. In fact, that review specifically left us looking forward to seeing what DON’T LIE would bring.
Now we can finally find out.
How Much Of Junko’s World Can You Trust?
With Japanese voice acting, first-person exploration and a story centred on trauma, loneliness and self-deception, BrokenLore: DON’T LIE looks to be taking the series into another deeply personal corner of horror.
And if its increasingly warped environments are anything to go by, Junko’s apartment may be the last place you’ll want to feel completely comfortable. Sometimes the most frightening thing isn’t what is hiding in the dark – it’s the possibility that the person looking back at you from the darkness might be yourself.
